Dating rule 101: ‘Thou shalt not mention Valentine’s Day to thy partner EVER, let alone a month in advance.’
Unfortunately, I have never been a fan of the dating rules, and have been bouncing around the man in my life dropping hints faster than the Reserve Bank is dropping interest rates. My over-zealous enthusiasm has been met with the typical responses:
“It’s commercial rubbish.”
“It’s just another day. I adore you everyday, why do I have to spend money to prove it on the 14th of February?”
My Prince Charming ain’t so charming in these moments. So, I have taken it upon myself to play cupid this year – and I’m doing it cheap. But cheap doesn’t mean tacky: Here are my hot tips for a cheap ’n chic, red hot Valentine’s Day….
Discount beauty treatments: Hair and beauty salons are always training new staff and many salons and training colleges offer excellent treatments for a fraction of the price of a top salon. You’ll still get the same result, as all training staff work supervised by a professional. Try Elly Lukas. The Biba chain of salons also offer a training academy service. Once you have been preened, plucked, buffed and polished you’re ready to get dressed…
Fabulous new outfits at bargain prices: Many retailers are on sale right now. So you can look forward to getting this season’s fashion at excellent prices. In addition, some retailers are having a tough time, and while this is hard on them, it’s good for our pockets. The secret is to be direct and ask if the garment that you like is going to be reduced any further. If they really want to sel l it to you, the price may come down lower than marked. There are some great websites to keep informed of sales too. Have a look at missyconfidential.com.au to find that great Valentine’s Day outfit to really blow him away, without blowing the budget.
Unwrapping the ultimate Valentine’s present: YOU! Bargains can be found in the lingerie department too. This means you may just be able to afford the French lace set that you had your eye on. Rather than going out for a fancy dinner, save your money and spend some romantic time at home... When the time comes for him to unwrap you, he’ll be delighted to find a provocative little gift underneath. Most retailers are on sale right now, but do some research online too, at sites such as instylelingerie.com.au.
Happy Valentine’s Day indeed!
